Cross Mountain Crusher 2024

The Catskill Recreation Center, in cooperation with Overlook Mountain Bikes and the Catskill Brewery, welcomes you to the fifth annual Cross Mountain Crusher, a 55-mile gravel/road ride for the serious cyclist.

This event is designed for those who wish to challenge their physical abilities to the maximum while enjoying beautiful back country roads in the Catskill Mountains.

There will be feed station support, and mechanical & vehicular support as needed. Many of the gravel roads are seasonal roads, so rough climbing and descending should be expected.

Crusher

The 55-mile course features five hefty hills and 5,200 feet of elevation gain, with portions of the ascent of Cross Mountain exceeding 20%.

Super Crusher

A 61-mile course with a 6th climb and valley descent into Arkville.

Crusher Lite

A 37-mile course with 3,000 feet of elevation gain.

There will be feed station support, and mechanical & vehicular support as needed. Many of the gravel roads are seasonal roads, so rough climbing and descending should be expected.

Catskill Mountain Cycling Challenge 2024

Sunday September 8th

The Catskill Mountain Cycling Challenge carries forth the long tradition of recreational road cycling in the Western Catskills. Building on the Tour de Pepacton and the Ride-n-Peak, our 2022 Cycling Challenge brings you three routes ranging from 29 miles to 100 miles. Your scenic pedal will support new and traditional programming at the Catskill Recreation Center (CRC). The first 130 registrants will receive a tee shirt. All participants will receive lunch as well as a free day pass to use in the future. The CRC locker rooms and showers will be available to riders.

Registration and check in opens at 7:00 am

100 milers depart at 8:30 am

50 milers depart at 8:30 am

29 milers depart at 9:30 am

The Routes

Routes subject to change depending on road conditions!

Pepacton Short - 29 miles

This popular loop offers flat-to-rolling terrain along the roads that circle the Pepacton Reservoir, crossing the water at the former site of Shavertown with wide open views. Refreshments and a composting toilet facility are available at mile 13.7.

Andes Loop - 50 miles

The route is rated Moderate-Difficult. Riders will engage with two long climbs and descents.

This ride takes you through the hamlets of Dunraven and New Kingston, then crosses the divide from the East to the West Branch of the Delaware River, descending into Bovina Center where you will be able to refresh at the first water/ feed station. Heading west to State Route 28, riders will turn left and ascend to the Bovina-Andes line, before rolling down into the hamlet of Andes. Then follow the quite reservoir road until rejoining Route 28 and returning to Arkville.

Century Challenge - 100 miles

Recommended for advanced level cyclists. The day’s longest ride affords a rich mix of woodland, farm, hamlet, and valley scenery while including some moderate climbs. The route rolls up the beautiful New Kingston Valley and beginning a steady climb at the hamlet and up over the pass to Bovina. Rolling downstream, the ride crosses the covered bridge and soon continues up picturesque Elk Creek Road.

At mile 50, the route turns southeast reaching Delhi (with a refreshment stop), The rider then faces a 1050’ gain in the next 7.5 miles to the apex of Co. Rte. 2, high above Andes with spectacular views. Much of the concluding stretch follows the shore of the Pepacton and is flat to rolling.
