Pool Rules

The CRC is a community pool. Your cooperation in following the rules will create a pleasant and safe environment for all our members.

Follow all lifeguard directions. They are responsible for the safety of all swimmers.

Showers are required before entering the pool. This is New York State Law (and a good idea!)

Help us keep it clean! All swimmers are requested to wear a swim cap.

Keep it fun. Horseplay or other unsafe behavior is prohibited.

Prolonged submersion and breath holding are prohibited.

Diving prohibited in all areas of the pool. Use of diving blocks is only permitted during CRC competitive programs.

All swimmers under 18 must pass a swim test administered by a CRC employee prior to swimming in the deep end of the pool.

Only CRC bubbles and Coast Guard approved floatation devices are allowed. No inflatable devices such as: water wings, inner tubes, rafts, etc. Swim bubbles are available in the pool. Children wearing floatation devices must stay in the shallow end of the pool within arm's reach of an adult.

We are a family friendly facility. Please display decorum in regard to swim wear. No strings, thongs or indecent exposure. T-shirts, cutoff shorts and any other non-swimming apparel are prohibited for health and safety reasons.

People with open wounds, rashes or sores are not allowed to swim until they have healed.

Food, gum and glass are not allowed on the pool deck or in locker rooms.

All electronic devices are prohibited from the pool area for the safety and security of all members.

Help keep our deck safe. Strollers are prohibited from the pool deck.

Only swim diapers are allowed in the pool - NOT everyday disposable or cloth diapers.

During thunderstorms, the pool will close for 30 minutes after the last thunder or lightening.

Swimmers 5 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult (18+) in the water.

Swimmers 6-9 years old must be accompanied by an adult in the pool area.

Swimmers 13 years old and older are permitted to use the facility without a parent present in the building.

Lap Swim

Swimmers of all ages are welcome to swim laps. Swimmers must be able to swim the full length of the pool continuously and without support.

If space is available, exercising, walking and floating are permitted during Lap Swim.

Lap swimmers must share lanes if there is not an open lane. Circle swimming is required when 3+ swimmers are sharing a lane. To swim circles effectively, watch the center line on the bottom of each lane and stay to the right.

Acknowledge and respect your fellow swimmers when you are sharing a lane.

Lanes may be removed to accommodate Swim Lessons. There is limited space for lap swimming during lessons, swim team and Aqua Fitness times. Please refer to the pool schedule.

Open Swim

For recreational, water exercise and rehabilitation use during scheduled times.

Water resistance equipment is available for adults.

Toys & noodles are available!
In extreme cases, the lifeguards will minimize use depending on number of patrons.

Equipment usage is limited to the scheduled programs and their appropriate use. Signs indicating equipment designated to a program are located in the equipment storage area.

In the Event of an Emergency designated by a long whistle blast...

... you are required to clear the pool deck and follow all other instructions given to you by Catskill Recreation Center employees.

Failure to comply with any of these rules is grounds for immediate removal from the pool, regardless of your awareness of them.

Lifeguards are not required to give warnings regarding rule enforcement.
